PREPARING FOR THE WORD

Call to Worship                                                                     Bill Cosnett & Matthew Stevens Leader:      Like children receiving a gift of love,

People:     Like toddlers ripping open big mysteries from little packages,

All:     Let us receive the presence of God.

Leader:      Let our pride in receiving be small.

People:     And let our faith be great,

All:     That we might plumb the depths of the grace God has given us

and remember the love and care we have been given.

           Let us worship God.

Invocation (unison)

O God, who loves and redeems us, we celebrate our oneness with you

     and with all your creation.

O God, who dwells in all and through all, reveal your fullness in our midst,

that we might become fully yours.

We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

*Hymn of Praise   Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee                Hymnal, pg. 464

*Call to Confession     (Silent Confession)

*Prayer of Confession (unison)

We acknowledge the many ways we have failed to live as your beloved

     servant people, O God.

We admit that our hands have been raised in anger and clenched in greed.

We admit that we have walked in the ways of injustice and violence.

We admit that our eyes have been busy seeking our own advantage,

even at the expense of our sisters and brothers.

Remind us again that we are yours:   body, mind, heart, and soul.

Invite us again to turn our hands, our feet, and our eyes to your work

and to the good of all creation.  Amen.

*Assurance of Pardon

Leader:      Dear friends, the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting.

People:      I declare in the name of Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

All:     We declare in the name of Jesus Christ that we are forgiven.

           Thanks be to God.

Invitation to the Lord’s Table:  ALL are welcomed by Christ!

Communion Prayer

*Hymn   Draw Us in the Spirit’s Tether                                  Hymnal, pg. 504

Words of Institution

The Bread and the Cup – the Communion of the People

Unison Prayer of Praise:

Gracious God, we have been fed at your table, reminding us that we are called to be

     one community with all creation.

We have been fed and reminded that we did not come here to find relief from those

who need us; we did not come here to exclude those who are different from us.

We did not come here to find sanctuary from those who challenge us.

We did not comer here to protect ourselves from those who call us “enemy.”

We came here to be strengthened to meet needs, to celebrate differences,

to rise to challenges, and to love our enemies.

As you have fed and nourished and empowered us to do that, enable us to go forth

and live out our love, for we pray it in the name of the one who taught us to pray,

“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our

debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.  Amen.”

*Hymn of Praise   How Firm a Foundation                           Hymnal, pg. 361

*Charge & Benediction
